Junior High Confirmation Ministry

OASIS
Confirmation Ministry at Trinity
To and with Seventh and Eighth Grade Students

The Ministry

OASIS is the name we have given to this ministry to and with junior high students.  It’s focus is the study of the Bible under the teaching of Trinity’s pastor and elders, and is reinforced by parental instruction and discussion at home.  We believe that the combination of faithful teaching at church and faithful instruction and encouragement at home is vital to the spiritual and moral growth of young people.

The Goals

In OASIS we want young people…
©     to learn about Jesus Christ, the world’s Savior;
©     to gain an overview of the Bible’s teachings and so also the teachings of the LutheranChurch – Missouri Synod as drawn from the Bible;
©     to recognize beliefs and worldviews that are not consistent with the Christian faith;
©     to develop a personal belief system based on God’s Word, saying, “This is what I believe!”
©     to apply Christian teaching to their daily lives;
©     to memorize important verses from the Bible that will help them in their faith and in daily living for our Lord;
©     to develop a comfortable personal relationship with their pastors and with their fellow students;
©     to develop the habit of worship and Bible study to be carried into the future;
©     to develop a heart for the lost and to learn to share the Gospel of forgiveness in Jesus.

The Name

Since an oasis is a place in the desert where a weary traveler can find water, we have chosen the name “OASIS” to remind us of Jesus’ offer to provide water which will become in us “a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14, NIV). The name “OASIS” also reminds us of the waters of our Baptism, through which God made us a part of His family.

Just like people traveling through the desert, we hope that our junior high youth can’t wait to get to the next OASIS!
